How to Choose the Best Dentist in Roorkee: 7 Questions to Ask
Choosing a dentist feels harder than it should. Every clinic’s website says “premium care”, “advanced technology” and “experienced team”. The Google Maps reviews are almost uniformly positive. How are you supposed to tell which clinic is actually right for your family?
Here are the seven questions I’d want a patient to ask — not just at our clinic, but at any dentist in Roorkee they’re considering.
1. What qualifications do the dentists have?
In India, a dentist can hold a BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery — the standard 5-year dental degree) or an MDS (Master of Dental Surgery — a 3-year specialisation on top of BDS). An MDS has trained specifically in one area: orthodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, pedodontics, and so on.
You don’t need an MDS for every procedure. A well-trained BDS can perform most fillings, cleanings, extractions and cosmetic work beautifully. But for specialised procedures — braces, implants, complex root canals, gum surgery — you want a specialist or a BDS with verified additional training.
Ask directly: “Who will be doing my procedure, and what’s their qualification and experience in this specific treatment?“
2. Can I see before-and-after photos from actual patients of this clinic?
Generic stock photos mean nothing. Real patient photos — with permission — show you the quality the clinic actually delivers. Any clinic that does meaningful cosmetic or orthodontic work should be able to show you case photos.
3. What technology do you use — and why?
Specifically ask about:
- Digital X-rays (standard today; lower radiation, instant viewing)
- CBCT / 3D imaging (essential for implants and complex cases)
- Intra-oral camera (lets you see your own teeth on a screen)
- Ultrasonic scaler (more comfortable cleanings)
- Sterilisation protocols — autoclave, single-use instruments, disinfection of chair and handpiece between patients
A clinic that can’t clearly explain their sterilisation process is a red flag. At Dantam Dental Solutions, every instrument goes through a class B autoclave cycle, and every patient has their own tray of instruments opened in front of them.
4. How transparent is the pricing?
A good clinic will give you a written treatment plan with itemised costs before starting work. Not a verbal estimate, not a range. If a clinic is cagey about pricing upfront, you can be certain there will be surprises at the end. Ask: “Will I receive a written quote, and will it stay the price unless something unexpected comes up?“
5. What’s your approach for nervous patients?
Dental anxiety is real, common, and nothing to be ashamed of. A good dentist will have a specific approach: longer appointment times for anxious patients, clear explanations at every step, music/headphones, sedation options for severe anxiety, and — most importantly — the commitment to stop the moment you raise your hand. If a clinic dismisses or minimises your nervousness, they’re not the right fit.
6. What happens after hours if something goes wrong?
If a crown falls off on a Sunday, or you get a dull toothache on Saturday night, what’s the protocol? A good clinic has an emergency contact process and will make time for genuine emergencies. You don’t want to discover this for the first time during an emergency.
7. Will you refuse treatment if I don’t actually need it?
This is the hardest question and the most important. A trustworthy dentist will regularly tell patients “you don’t need that” or “let’s watch this, not treat it yet”. Clinics that aggressively upsell veneers, smile makeovers, whitening or replacement of perfectly serviceable old fillings are operating on a different business model than clinics focused on long-term patient health.
One fair test: go in for a routine cleaning. If you leave with a large list of proposed work and no real explanation of why each is necessary, be cautious.
How Roorkee patients typically find us
Most of our new patients at Dantam Dental come through referrals from existing patients. Google Business Profile reviews are the second-largest source. We don’t advertise aggressively — we prefer that patients find us the way most medical care is found: word-of-mouth from someone they trust.
If you’d like to come in for a consultation, no pressure, no upselling, book online or call us directly at +91 97591 17777. We’ll answer every one of the seven questions above for you directly.
